Membership Information

The University of Maryland chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary is an honor organization that represents the top 1% of student leaders living in the residence hall community.  Members are recognized via NRHH graduation sashes as well as their names being engraved on the NRHH membership plaques.

In affiliation with the Residence Halls Association, NRHH acts as the recognition body of RHA and also serves as a service and programming organization to the campus community.

The NRHH has four types of members with different benefits: applying, active, alumni and honorary members.

Current and past members have served the following roles at the University of Maryland: RHA executive board members, Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) members, Resident Assistants, Community Assistants, Maryland Imagers, SGA Representatives, University Senate members, Hall Council executive board members, University Student Judiciary members, Student Entertainment Events (SEE) board members and student employees.

Members of NRHH have opportunities to build and expand personal leadership skills, network among other residence hall leaders, and gain recognition from the campus community for their achievements.

Applicants for NRHH must have a current GPA of 3.0 or higher, have lived in the residence hall community for one full year, be in good academic and judicial standing, and have demonstrated outstanding service and leadership to the residence halls.





Applying Members:
PROCESS
• Must maintain atleast a 3.0 cumulative GPA
• Must have 2 semesters living on campus
• Be in good academic and judicial standing as verified by the Department of Resident Life's Office of Rights and Responsibilities.

BENEFITS
• Receives the NRHH certificate
• May work towards full active membership status


Active Members:
PROCESS
• Must submit 1 completed OTM
• Participate in at least 3 hours of approved community service over the course of a semester
• Submit a short leadership brief for publication
• Must attend 2 General Body Meetings per semester and 1 Induction ceremony per year (Fall or Spring)

BENEFITS
• Receives the NRHH lapel pin
• Name is engraved on the NRHH membership plaque
• After 1 year of active membership you will receive the NRHH graduation stole (sash) to wear at the university graduation (Senior exceptions made on a case by case basis)


Alumni Members:
• Must complete the above requirements
• Members who move off of campus for atleast a full year or graduates from UM


Honorary Members:
PROCESS
• Members of the campus community, including students, faculty and staff, as determined by the current NRHH body of both active and applying members

BENEFITS
• Receive all the benefits of Active Members
